Biomedical treatment; Antidepressants reduce the risk of anger, irritability, impulsive behaviors, and depression. The most often perscribed for these behaviors are selective serotonin reputake inhibitors.
ReplyDeleteNon Medical treatment; Dialectical behavior therapy helps reduce destructive behaviors by teaching healthy ways to adapt to and cope with challenges and feelings of frustration or lack of power.
A psychotherapy that would work for you is talk therapy. Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), can successfully treat BPD. Also, group therapy can help change self-destructive behaviors. Using therapy helps the person overcome the disorder.
ReplyDeletePutting someone with BPD inside the hospital emergency rooms sometimes has made them severly depressed. So medicating them would not be a good idea. Also, medicating people with BPD only stops some symptoms, but doesn't help them overcome the disorder.
