This week in Psych is all about sensation and perception. Sensation is the process our body uses to get information from our surroundings, and perception is the process our body uses to interpret the information into something we can use and understand.
In class, we did a variety of demonstrations to test our own senses and what we perceive. In one case, a student stood on a board and was thought to be moving up and down. I know that if I had been chosen for that, I probably wouldn't have done well. For one, I don't like heights. I also have a bad depth perception and bad balance. Instead I was chosen for a sound test of sorts. I was blindfolded and had to point to where the sound was coming from. Mr. Dreier said that he wouldn't let me walk into any walls or anything but then I ran into a desk.
At certain points I wasn't sure if the sound was coming from behind me or in front of me, and there were a few times where I thought I heard a sound but it was really faint so I wasn't sure. I was kind of afraid at first when he volunteered me for this and somewhat wished I had lied and said I had taken Anat. and Phys. But the lab was still kind of fun. I'm really surprised no one laughed when I pointed in the wrong direction.
